One family swears by the caravan, another by the motorhome. Both can be wonderful in Scandinavia. Which suits you mainly depends on how you want to travel: moving on every day, or a few days in one place.

🔑 Hiring instead of bringing your own

If you fly to Scandinavia, you can hire a car locally and book a cabin or hytte. We compare hire cars by country under car hire.

Dipped headlights are compulsory everywhere during the day, and in winter each country has its own tyre rules. It’s all under traffic rules and best time to travel. Tolls and AutoPASS are covered in the tolls guide.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is a motorhome or a caravan better for Norway?

That depends on your travel rhythm. For lots of different stops a motorhome is more manoeuvrable; for a long stay in one place with days out, a caravan plus car is handy.
