Internet and power on the road

Checking the route, looking at the weather or putting on a video for the kids: internet is handy on the road. Luckily roaming is usually sorted in all five countries. With power at the campsite there are a few things to watch.

- All five countries are in the EEA
- At sea and on ferries roaming often doesn’t apply
- Ask at the campsite what hook-up they have
Mobile
📱 Mobile internet
Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland are all in the EEA. There “Roam like at home” usually applies: you call and browse at your home rate, within the rules of your plan. (source: European Commission)
On ferries and at sea, maritime networks are often used, and those fall outside it. Better to switch off mobile data on board. In remote areas there isn’t coverage everywhere: download offline maps.
Extra data
📶 Extra data with an eSIM
If your plan has little data, you can get an eSIM.
At the campsite
🔌 Power at the campsite
When booking, ask which hook-up the campsite uses and how many amps are available, and bring a suitable cable and adapter. A power bank is handy for hiking days.

Will my EU mobile plan work in Norway?
Usually, yes: Norway is in the EEA, where “Roam like at home” applies. Not on ferries or at sea (European Commission).
